Nothing much has happened these last few weeks. I was going to be going offshore to an oil rig but that got cancelled for business reasons (BP) and instead I am to go on a gas rig. The gas rig in question has required some extra training; I went to a 1.5 hour introduction meeting about the rig and then a two hour exercise in how to use the S-Cape emergency system. This system is supposed to be used when all other options are unavailable, essentially you abseil down the side of the rig and hang around above/in the water until help arrives. Unfortunately the training was very basic and I only travelled down about 20cm of rope with the system.
I should be going offshore on either Tuesday or Wednesday, perhaps later if it gets delayed. Apparently it is about 1 hour away into the caspian sea by helicopter. update 2nd Dec 2006 .... I am no longer going to the gas rig, apparently the onshore managers don't someone with no experience on this well. At $2000 dollars a day, I am not the best value person they can get :-) Instead it looks although I will be working on the upper completion on an oil rig. |
