14-10-2008 _ Cameron, Texas, USA _ Fiber deployment trial into tubing

Cameron Tesas, USA

This was the most annoying job I have ever been on, a combination of constant work and no reward makes for a very bad job. I flew to Houston Texas on Tuesday morning and then flew back on Friday night, arriving on saturday morning at 9am. The job started badly with about 20 hours of travelling, 4 hours sleep then 17 hours straight on a rig. The lack of sleep and excessive work continued until friday at which point I flew back to the UK. Unfortunately I didnt get any chance to look around Texas as the job was so late minute that I booked my ticket the day before I flew.

This job involved installing a fiber down the tubing string of a well by attaching a weight to the end of a fiber reel and dropping it into the well. With the fiber installed in the well, vibration and temperature data could be collected from the well. This vibration data is to be used to assess future oilfield applications for the distributed vibration technology created in Southampton.

The one big plus from the trip was that you can get dr pepper with your meals at Macdonalds and Subway, and perhaps other places aswell. A dream come true : -)
