06-10-2006 _ OFS-1, ELC, France _ Training Day in Paris
|
The day started with everyone taking the RER into Paris to the Renaissance Hotel. The hotel is near La Defence and the Schlumberger French HQ. The Renaissance hotel is much nicer than the hotel we were staying at near Euro Disney and the food was very good. At the hotel we met our TDMs (Training Development Managers) who told us how our first few months at Schlumberger would proceed and where we would go to School. I am in completion and I believe the only location for that is in Melun (France) in the ELC. I am expected to get about three months experience in location before going back there for a couple of months of intensive training. After lunch we had a roundtable with a large number of managers of Europe and Africa and got to ask them questions about the company and what is coming up in the future. Before being let loose in Paris we had another QHSE presentation about contagious diseases and about the health options available in the field.
Once out of the hotel a couple of us broke off and went for some food. After a long walk we ended up in a nice looking Indian restaurant, I even commented about how nice it was compared to the typical ones in the UK. Obviously we were in for a surprise !! After we sat down it started raining outside.. no problem you'd think. Then it started raining inside!! At first a few drips started coming from a light fitting above Cherry so we changed table, at this point the rain outside was getting heavy. After a few minutes water started dripping out of various ceiling lights. Time passed and water started pouring out of the ceiling and soaked those people too stubborn to move table. I managed to subtly get a few pictures of the devastation as it occurred. Video of water pouring from the ceiling The food was good tho :-) |
